Excerpts from Jennifer’s Writing

From “In the Moment: Writing from a Spacious Mind”

Dandy Lions

The bunny sits amidst a field full of lions. He sits calmly, scenting the air, waiting. The lions wait as well. What a tasty snack, but nowhere near enough for all the ions there. What will the bunny do? Escape seems impossible, for he is surrounded by a dense sea of lions. I look for signs of fear in the bunny, but there are none. So calm, accepting of whatever will come his way. Then the bunny looks up, a minute movement of his head. What does he hear, or smell? Suddenly he takes off in a running bunny hop. The sea of lions takes flight as well, but not all follow the bunny. They scatter in every direction, floating up, down, left and right in a swirling whirlwind of white puffs. The bunny escapes unscathed, for it was not the King of the Jungle who surrounded him. He was in a field of harmless, white, fluffy dandelions! But I suppose not everyone thinks dandelions are harmless. They spread their fluffy seeds and more flowers grow where they land. Though some call them weeds, killing them with harsh chemicals. My seven year old cousin thinks they are beautiful flowers. She gathers them from the yard and spends the day holding them to her nose, smelling their perfume. She sniffs them until her nose is stained yellow! Now there’s a sight to see! Her yellow nose matches her blond hair, perhaps a shade darker. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. One gardener’s weed is a little girl’s flower.

Unpublished

This is a whimsical little poem I wrote while I was bored at work several years ago.

3:32

3:32, 3:32, almost time to go home.
Go home and eat dinner,
go home and walk the dog,
go home and write some more of my book.

3:33, 3:33, another minute goes by.
Another minute gone in the work day,
another minute gone in life,
another minute, another minute.

3:34, 3:34, times goes by so slowly.
Twenty-seven minutes, wanting to leave.
Watching the clock tick tick tick
time can’t move fast enough.

3:35, 3:35, I’d better do something else.
I’d better do some work,
I’d better stop watching time,
I’d better get back to my job.
